Why Celebrate Bernie on Women's Day?
Because throughout his 30+ year career, Senator Sanders has been a champion of equality for women and concern for the less fortunate among us.
In his own words:
"When it comes to the rights of women, we cannot go backwards. We have got to go forward.
We are not going back to the days when women had to risk their lives to end an unwanted pregnancy.
It is wrong that women working full-time only earn 78 cents for every dollar a man earns.
And, not only are we going to expand policies that advance gender equality, we are going to vigorously defend the critical laws and programs which protect all working people in our country."
Suggestions for Promoting Your Meet-up
Hosts must spread the word far and wide to ensure a great turn-out
What Should We Do at the Meet-up?
Suggestions for your agenda
The single best way to reach voters is to make phone calls using the Bernie Dialer. Your guests will need to bring a cell phone and a laptop. Make sure to practice making calls on your own before you attempt to do it in a group.
Brainstorm Letters to the Editor
Old fashioned, but effective
Have your group discuss local issues that could be connected to Bernie's platform and get people invigorated to write letters to the editor. They are especially effective for reaching out to voters not on social media. Much more info here.
Enjoy the good company
You can't work ALL the time
One ingredient of a successful grassroots movement is providing volunteers time to re-charge and relax with others who care about Bernie. It's fine to use your meet-up as a time to re-energize for future volunteer work.
